Braves Home Opener

It’s been nearly a month since my last post! I’ve been hiding out due to crazy times at work, but things are better now that it’s almost April 15th. I have done some fun things meanwhile, and even have pictures to show for some of it. Maybe I’ll get around to posting them now that I have time to sit at my computer and not be doing work.

Meanwhile, I went to the Braves Home Opener last night. I completely forgot my camera, so this won’t be a pretty post. It was lots of fun though – with all the first game festivities. There was the first pitch by Pete Van Wieren, recently retired announcer for the Braves. Then the usual national anthem festivities at sporting events. They brought out this HUMONGOUS American flag that covered most of the diamond – I didn’t even know that make them that big. And afterwards, 3 fighter jets flew overhead, skimming just over the top of the stadium. That was super cool.

The game was pretty close and exciting. Most exciting when rain poured down after the 3rd inning and rain delay was called. We hung around to see if it would start back up again, plus we had passes to the 755 Club, so we got the check that out. The game finally started back again at 10:45, with 6 innings to go. At that point, everyone was a little tipsy (not me – I can’t stomach American beer. Yuck). The cheering and the name calling was definitely more colorful than before the rain delay. The peanut gallery sitting around me were saying lots of nasty things to the outfielder playing near us. It was entertaining, but really sad at the same time. The game went into an extra inning, so we didn’t get done until 1:30 am, after when MARTA stopped service. So we walked back, in the middle of the night, on the deserted streets of downtown Atlanta to the garage for our cars. Panhandlers every corner asking for money. Eeek. Not pleasant. But fun. What better way could I have spent my Friday night?
