I signed myself up for an 8-week Ikebana course! I’m so excited. This was the one Japanese thing I wanted to do before coming to Japan (besides J-Pop Karaoke). My first class was last Friday (October 7). The teacher is an Ikebana master and brought 4 of her apprentices as assistants. It’s kind of funny how traditional it is. The assistants will fetch her everything she needs, even if it’s barely 1 step away. Another thing is their Ikebana names. Apprently, you make up a pseudonym with your regular last name plus whatever name you think sounds cool and artsy, and all the apprentices take up one of kanji from the master’s name, so that it’s almost like another last name. Really weird…..
Anyhow. On Friday, we did an upright arrangement. Here’s my “masterpiece”:
I’ll keep updating my “masterpieces” as I make them!
